The Shelter Direct Support Staff provides critical support to young adults in the Manchester, NH community. The Shelter staff will work in a team to support young adults between the ages of 18-25 years old in staying at Waypoints Emergency Shelter. The Emergency Shelter is part of programming that provides 24/7 care to youth and young adults that are experiencing homelessness or are at risk thereof. The Shelter staff utilize a Positive Youth Development approach, employ Harm Reduction strategies, and are Trauma-Informed Shift Schedule Third Shift Part Time (16 hours per week) 11:30pm-8am (

Alternating Weeks:

Tuesday/Friday and Saturday/Thursday) This role focuses on providing a welcoming, safe, and supportive environment for youth and young adults accessing services. Key duties include conducting regular safety checks throughout the night, facilitating wake-ups and morning basic needs and departure from the shelter space, overseeing breakfast meal service, maintaining safety protocols within the shelter, and fostering a youth-centered approach to care. Qualifications Passionate about our mission and purpose High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education in social work, youth services, or related fields preferred. Experience working with youth, particularly those experiencing homelessness or in crisis, is highly desirable. Familiarity with trauma-informed care, de-escalation techniques, and safety procedures. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with diverse youth populations. Basic computer skills, including the ability to use email, data entry, and reporting systems. Physical Requirements Evening and weekend availability required. Exposure to potentially stressful situations while supporting youth in crisis. Ability to stand for extended periods during the course of a shift. Ability to navigate stairs multiple times per shift. Comfortable working in environments with moderate to high noise levels. Capable of sitting, kneeling, squatting, and lifting 25lbs or carrying objects as needed to maintain a safe and organized environment.
