Shift Schedule First Shift Part Time (every other Sunday) 7:30am-12:30pm Job Summary The First Shift Staff member is responsible for the drop-in center during daytime hours. This role focuses on providing a welcoming, safe, and supportive environment for youth and young adults accessing services. Key duties include checking young people into the drop-in center, conducting safety checks upon client entry to the drop-in, conducting new client intakes, running groups, overseeing meal service, maintaining safety protocols within the building, actively engaging with young people while they are in the center and fostering a youth-centered approach to care. Essential Job Responsibilities Drop-In Center and Shelter Operations Conduct intakes for new participants, collecting necessary information, explain program guidelines, and assess immediate needs. Facilitate meal service, ensuring dietary needs are accommodated and the space is clean and organized. Complete daily responsibilities as outlined to ensure smooth shelter operations, including monitoring facility cleanliness and readiness, common areas, restrooms, and sleeping spaces. Foster strong communication and collaboration with colleagues, including staff at the Hanover Street location, through email correspondence, communication logs, shift notes, and regular meetings to ensure consistent and effective support for youth. Conduct regular inventory of supplies and youth essential items; communicate replenishment needs to the Supervisor in a timely manner. Report any facility maintenance or safety concerns to the Supervisor to ensure the building remains a safe and functional environment. Actively participate in all required and ongoing staff training and professional development opportunities. Youth Engagement and Support Apply principles of Positive Youth Development, Harm Reduction, and Trauma-Informed Care when engaging with clients and delivering services. Build and maintain positive, trusting relationships with youth; support engagement with case managers to ensure continuity of care and foster a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment. Address immediate needs such as access to food, hygiene supplies, and other resources. Serve as a resource for youth, connecting them to internal and external services and supports. Uphold established boundaries and shelter policies, seeking supervisory support when navigating complex or challenging situations. Empower clients to achieve personal growth and independence by teaching essential life skills, fostering a sense of responsibility, and building accountability. Provide structured guidance, support, and motivation to help clients set and achieve meaningful goals, make informed decisions, and develop healthy, productive routines. Safety and Security Promote and maintain a culture of safety, respect, non-judgment and a low barrier approach to care within the building environment. Provide immediate crisis intervention and de-escalation support to maintain a safe and supportive milieu balanced with trauma informed care; engage on-call staff and consult with the Supervisor as needed. Ensure adherence to safety protocols, including regular checks of the facility and ensuring all participants adhere to guidelines. Respond promptly to emergencies, escalating concerns to on-call, supervisors, or emergency services as needed. Maintain a log of incidents and updates during the shift, ensuring smooth communication across staff teams. Team Collaboration Consistently uphold and embody the department’s core values, beliefs, and vision in all aspects of the Staff role. Participate in shift change meetings, regularly scheduled supervisions, and staff meetings to ensure clear communication of updates, needs, and priorities as well as reflect on practice, receive and give feedback and support continued growth. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education in social work, youth services, or related fields preferred. Experience working with youth, particularly those experiencing homelessness or in crisis, is highly desirable. Familiarity with trauma-informed care, de-escalation techniques, and safety procedures. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with diverse youth populations. Basic computer skills, including the ability to use email, data entry, and reporting systems. Physical Requirements Every other Sunday availability required. Exposure to potentially stressful situations while supporting youth in crisis. Ability to stand for extended periods during the course of a shift. Ability to navigate stairs multiple times per shift. Comfortable working in environments with moderate to high noise levels. Capable of sitting, kneeling, squatting, and lifting 25lbs or carrying objects as needed to maintain a safe and organized environment. Willingness to perform light cleaning and general housekeeping tasks as part of daily responsibilities. First Shift Part Time (every other Sunday)
