Duties Description Youth Counselors mentor and guide youth in residential facilities operated by the Division for Juvenile Justice and Opportunities for Youth (DJJOY). They are responsible for the supervision, evaluation and guidance of youthful offenders, juvenile offenders or at-risk youth referred to OCFS. Supervises Youth Counselors 1 involved in directing, guiding and providing daily care and supervision of youth. May represent and carry out the duties and responsibilities of the Youth Facility Director, Youth Facility Assistant Director or Youth Counselor 3 in their absence. May perform additional support tasks such as coordinating educational opportunities, arranging for building maintenance, ordering and requisition supplies, ensuring meals are served to resident and arranging for special events. May perform all the same duties and functions as a Youth Counselor 1. Additional duties will be discussed in detail during the interview. The minimum qualifications required for this vacancy. Minimum Qualifications One year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service in this title or in a title eligible for 70.1 transfer.
Provisional:
Must be a current OCFS employee and have one year of permanent competitive service as a Youth Counselor 1 or Youth Counselor 1 (Cadet) This position may be designated 55 b/c and is subject to verification of applicant eligibility. Additional comments regarding the vacancy.
Additional Comments Background Investigation Requirements:

Prospective employees will be required to pay any necessary fees. 3) For Division of Juvenile Justice and Opportunities for Youth (DJJOY) prospective appointees will be checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs. Prospective employees whose names appear on the SEL as having been found responsible for serious or repeated acts of abuse or neglect will be barred from appointment and may have their names removed from the eligible list(s) for the title(s) if applicable.
