Department:
Huntsville Animal Services provides sheltering, enforcement, and prevention services for Huntsville and the unincorporated areas of Madison County. In partnership with community organizations, Animal Services provides a safety net for lost and homeless pets and is committed to sustaining the City’s goal of finding live outcomes for at least 90 percent of the companion animals that enter the shelter each year.
Animal Services Lead Officer Position Overview:
This is lead enforcement work in Animal Services responsible for assisting with the instructions and directions for the Animal Services Officers’ work performed in protecting, assisting, assisting, educating, catching, confining, caring for, and disposing of stray or diseased dogs or other wildlife animals in accordance with Animal Control Ordinance and State laws. Work involves providing guidance, training, quality control, and field support, while maintaining a strong focus on public education, interagency coordination, and community engagement. Serves as a mentor and trains newly hired Officers and Dispatchers; supports in-service field training efforts.
Qualifications and Necessary Special Requirements:
High school diploma from a school accredited by a regional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or GED certificate issued by the appropriate state agency and Three years’ experience as an Animal Control Officer or equivalent experience in animal care/control, law enforcement, or related field. Lead worker or supervisory experience desired. A valid driver’s license is required. Basic Animal Control Officer Certification required Must obtain Certified Euthanasia Technician certification within one year of hire/promotion Must obtain Cruelty investigator certification within one year of hire/promotion Must obtain Chemical Capture certification within two years of hire/promotion Certification in CPR and First Aid for humans and animals preferred For More Information Regarding the Animal Services Lead Officer Job Duties, Please Visit the
