Community Support Specialist, Intake/Lost & Found Job Summary :

As the Admission/Intake Coordinator for the Humane Society of Vero Beach (HSVB), you will play a vital role in ensuring the well-being and welfare of animals within the community . The Admissions/Intake Coordinator will work under the direction of the Shelter Manager to oversee the Admission/Intake staff and create plans for all animals in our care. This role requires a compassionate and organized individual who can effectively manage staff, implement animal welfare policies, and facilitate animal outcomes to include but not limited to adoption, foster, and transfer.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Work with the Shelter Manager and Director of Operations to develop, update, and implement policies and procedures to ensure the humane treatment of animals and safety of staff and visitors. Assists to implement training programs for admission/intake to ensure that they are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to provide excellent care for animals in the shelter. Organize educational programs and workshops to raise community awareness about animal welfare and responsible pet ownership. Monitor and maintain the cleanliness and safety of the shelter, including animal enclosures, common areas, and equipment. Collaborate with the adoption team to ensure that all animals are placed in loving and suitable homes, foster homes, or transferred to other shelters/rescues. Maintain accurate records of all animals in the shelter, including medical records, adoption records, and intake records. Manage the lost & found pet services, including database management and reunification efforts. Work closely with animal control agencies and local shelters to ensure lost pets are identified and returned to their owners. Maintain a comprehensive system to document lost & found cases and provide support to owners in search of missing animals. Manage the admissions process for surrendered, stray, and rescued animals. Collaborate with veterinary staff to ensure timely medical assessments and treatments for the incoming animals. Coordinate with Outreach to assist with community engagement.

Qualifications and Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent required. Friendly, outgoing, professional demeanor. Ability to work independently and within a team environment. Strong communication, interpersonal and critical thinking skills. Maturity and confidence in working with a diverse audience. Effective at working with others to reach common goals and objectives. Regular in person, on-site attendance is an essential function of this position. Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends, holidays and special events.

$16.00

Hourly Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is required to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time, as well as move and traverse within the shelter facility for extended periods of time, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee is required to communicate, converse with, convey information to, express oneself, and exchange information with shelter staff and the general public. The employee must regularly move, transport, and position items weighing up to 10 pounds, frequently moves, transports, and positions items weighing up to 25 pounds, and occasionally moves, transports, and position items weighing up to 50 pounds. The employee is continuously exposed to animals, animal waste, potentially harmful cleaning chemicals, high noise and potentially hazardous conditions, including the risk of animal bites and working outdoors for extended periods of time during cold and extremely hot weather.
