POSITION SUMMARY
This position performs technical and administrative work in enforcing municipal codes and ordinances related to zoning, property maintenance, and public nuisance abatement. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Planning & Development Director.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS
Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Experience:
Prior experience in code enforcement, zoning, or building inspection preferred. Strong customer service and interpersonal skills required.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS, CERTIFICATES, ETC.
Must possess or have the ability to obtain required certifications for a Code Enforcement Officer. Valid state-issued driver’s license.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
The following duties are illustrative of the type of work performed. Maintains accurate and organized records related to code enforcement activities.
Coordinates with Planning & Development staff and other departments as necessary.
Receives, investigates, and resolves complaints related to potential zoning or code violations.
Patrols city limits to identify code violations and educate the public on regulations and compliance requirements.
Issues warnings, notices of violations, and citations as appropriate; follows up to ensure compliance.
Promotes positive public relations through courteous and professional interactions with residents and stakeholders.
Conducts thorough investigations and ensures enforcement is in accordance with City ordinances and applicable State statutes.
Performs additional related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations pertaining to code enforcement.
Ability to read and interpret maps, plans, and aerial photographs.
Ability to investigate complaints and document findings accurately and thoroughly.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Proficient in maintaining records and preparing detailed reports.
Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment.
Capable of maintaining effective working relationships with employees, residents, and the general public.
Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
Ability to remain calm and professional in stressful or confrontational situations.
WORK SCHEDULE AND SUPERVISON
Standard work hours are Monday through Friday; subject to after-hours callouts.
Reports to: Planning & Development Director
This position does not supervise other employees.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Frequent walking, driving, standing, bending, and reaching.
Must be able to lift and/or move up to 45 pounds regularly, and up to 90 pounds occasionally
Visual acuity includes close, distance, color, peripheral vision, and depth perception required.
Regularly required to use hands, arms, and fingers; must be able to talk, hear, and smell.
