General Description The purpose of this job is to perform clerical and administrative work collecting and recording money for the County. This position works under close supervision according to set procedures. Duties and Responsibilities The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary. Greets visitors and answers telephone; provides information to the public regarding policies and procedures of Animal Control; ensures all calls are returned according to department standards. Receives payments by mail; returns incorrect payments; sends receipts and responds to written inquiries; receives monies for license bills paid at Animal Control and for rabies vaccinations; posts, balances and updates records in the computer database. Vaccinates dog and cats to protect them against rabies. Educate and advise citizens on having their animal microchip and spayed and neutered. Handles payments and inquiries from the general public; posts receipts and disbursements to accounts and prepares reports of fees received; maintains accounting of revenues and receipts; balances cash drawer and prepares deposits. Maintains and updates documentation for all accounts (e.g. names, addresses, spay/neuter and other information); monitors transfer of payments and posts to correct accounts; updates records as needed; sends deposit information to Finance Department; enters information into computer database. Prepares and sends bills for licenses each month as part of the license renewal program; sends exempt notices; shares responsibility for data entry of rabies certificate information collected from veterinarians. Maintains computer-based records of civil penalties and ensures those coming from the animal shelter have been entered; tracks payments; adds late fees as applicable; forwards any civil penalties not paid to Legal Department for collection. Contacts individuals that have checks returned for non-payment, tracks response and sends those that meet the criteria on to the Legal Department for collections; provides training of staff in collections and data entry. Prepares monthly reports on impounded animals and animal control officer calls for the department head; may also prepare reports that track streets, animals, dispatch information or other information used to research a problem area or situation. Performs related work as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent supplemented by one (1) year of experience in veterinary services, customer service or office support services; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Physical Demands:
Performs medium work that involves walking, standing, stooping, jumping, lifting, digging, pushing and raising objects and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis and 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis. Unavoidable Hazards (Work Environment): Involves routine and frequent exposure to: Bright/dim light; Dusts and pollen. Extreme heat and/or cold; Wet or humid conditions. Extreme noise levels, Animals/wildlife. Vibration; Fumes and/or noxious odors.
Special Certifications and Licenses:
