An employee in this class assists with on-site and off-site rescue (animal transfer) operations. Helps establish and maintain relationships with surrounding animal welfare/rescue organizations to coordinate transportation and placement of selected animals within the Forsyth County Animal Shelter. Coordinates with shelter staff to ensure all medical requirements and treatments have been completed before animals are transferred. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Animal Services Office Administrator. Distinguishing Features The ideal candidate has the following knowledge, skills and abilities: Considerable knowledge of the NC Animal Welfare Act and state and local laws related to the responsible care of animals. Knowledge of the proper care and treatment of animals, including safe handling procedures. Ability to maintain professional and effective working relationships with other employees and with the staff of partnering rescues or agencies. Ability to professionally interact with the public, ability to display tact and courtesy while providing service, especially during difficult/emotionally charged encounters. Ability to communicate effectively both in person and by telephone. Ability to follow instructions. Ability to reasonably read an animal’s temperament. Ability to handle animals professionally and responsibility without bias and/or emotion. Ability to lift 20-50 lbs occasionally, 10-25lbs frequently or up to 10lbs constantly. Minimum Education and Experience High school diploma or equivalent and 3 years of experience in an Animal Shelter, Veterinary Clinic, or related field. Possession of valid driver’s license. Previous experience coordinating rescue, foster and/or adoption for a shelter or clinic is preferred. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Assists in identifying animals from the shelter suitable for placement and transport to other animal welfare organizations. Serves as point of contact for partner organizations working with Forsyth County Animal Shelter to transfer and place animals. Responsible for organizing transport of animals to partner organizations. Responsible for recruiting qualified animal shelters, rescue groups, sanctuaries including verifying references and maintaining up to date information of these organizations. Responsible for building and maintaining relationships with other animal shelters, rescue groups, sanctuaries and other animal welfare groups willing to transfer/receive animals from the shelter. Communicates information and rescue requests to animal welfare organizations via social media, phone and/or email. Responsible for coordinating and collecting videos, pictures, medical records, and any additional information needed by the receiving organization. Assists in developing written Memorandums of Understanding (MOU) between the shelter and other animal welfare organizations and ensuring all records and contact information are kept up to date. Communicates with shelter staff regarding any medical requirements, health certificates, and identification paperwork required for animals going to other animal welfare organizations. Collaborates with other shelter staff to ensure proper animal selection for transfer. Maintains records and reports of all animals transferred to other animal welfare organizations. Performs other duties as assigned.
