Building Code and Zoning Enforcement Officer (Part-Time) Village of Theresa 124 Commercial Street, Theresa, NY 13691 Overview The Code Enforcement Officer plays a crucial role in ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to public health and safety. This position involves monitoring and enforcing codes and regulations, conducting inspections, and working collaboratively with community members to promote a safe and healthy environment. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders. Duties Conduct regular inspections of properties to ensure compliance with building codes, zoning laws, and public health regulations. Investigate complaints related to code violations, including but not limited to sanitation issues, unsafe structures, and environmental hazards. Prepare detailed reports documenting findings from inspections and investigations. Collaborate with other regulatory agencies to ensure adherence to FDA regulations and OSHA standards. Provide guidance and education to property owners regarding compliance requirements and best practices for maintaining safe environments. Maintain accurate records of inspections, violations, and enforcement actions taken. Participate in community outreach efforts to raise awareness about code enforcement issues and promote public health initiatives. Skills Knowledge of FDA regulations and public health standards. Proficiency in regulatory reporting and compliance management. Strong report writing skills for documenting inspections and findings clearly and concisely. Familiarity with OSHA guidelines related to workplace safety. Ability to build positive relationships with community members while enforcing regulations fairly. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, for effective interaction with diverse groups. Strong analytical skills for assessing compliance issues and determining appropriate enforcement actions.
