THE POSITION

Join our team as a Dog Law Enforcement Warden, where you can play an instrumental part in enforcing all provisions of the State Dog Law and Rabies Law in Somerset and Cambria Counties. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will work diligently enforcing the provisions of the State Dog Law and the Rabies Law (Act 181). Your duties will include inspecting dogs to verify compliance with licensing requirements, investigating complaints about dogs running at large, and examining kennels—both licensed and those seeking licensure—to ensure adherence to all regulatory standards. You will also initiate prosecutions for any violations of the State Dog Law and Rabies Law, attend hearings to present supporting evidence, and apprehend and transport dogs found at large. Additionally, you will investigate incidents of dog bites, assess claims for damages to livestock or poultry caused by dogs, and prepare reports for damage compensation. Furthermore, you will conduct audits of facilities seeking reimbursement for the humane disposal of stray dogs and investigate suspected illegal transportation or killing of dogs. Work Schedule and Additional Information:

Full-time employment Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday – Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. This position will be home headquartered if applicant lives in Somerset or Cambria County. If applicant does not live in Somerset or Cambria County the assigned state vehicle must be parked in this county and the work day will start at 8:00 AM at the location of the assigned state vehicle.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

Two years of experience in dog law enforcement, animal control, animal welfare, or animal science work; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirement:

You must be in possession of a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license.

Additional Requirements:

Must be able to utilize current technology to perform daily tasks (cell phones, laptops, etc.) Must be able to read and comprehend laws, regulations, and policies. Must be able to drive a vehicle for prolonged periods in potentially adverse weather conditions. Must be able to walk, stand, bend, kneel for long periods which includes maneuvering over all types of physical surfaces. Must be able to lift dogs, livestock, and equipment up to 50 pounds.
