JOB SUMMARY
The purpose of the class is to enforce County litter and nuisance ordinances; to provide technical interpretation of regulations to the citizens as needed; to promote the high quality of life and maintain property value; to prepare and maintain all required documentation; and to perform related work as required. This class works according to some procedures but decides how or when to do things; work is reviewed regularly by supervisor.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Patrols County areas to identify violations of litter and nuisance codes and ordinances; identifies violations of illegal dump sites, noise control and/or unsafe housing codes and ordinances.
- Digs through trash dump sites looking for evidence for prosecution purposes.
- Cleans up dump site when violators cannot be located.
- Receives and investigates complaints from County residents regarding potential ordinance violations.
- Performs traffic stops for code enforcement.
- Conducts field inspections as necessary to identify violations; sets up and utilizes surveillance equipment in the woods to try and identify violators.
- Prepares inspection reports; prepares and issues notices of correction and/or citations.
- Explains, interprets and provides guidance regarding applicable codes and compliance requirements to staff and the public.
- Follows up on each case to verify corrections have been made to comply with codes; conducts reinspections.
- Prepares cases for prosecution in the event of non-compliance; testifies in court as necessary.
- Collects and records various fees and fines.
- Maintains a variety of logs and records related to inspection and enforcement activities.
- Maintains assigned vehicles and equipment.
- Receives and responds to inquiries, concerns, complaints and requests for assistance regarding areas of responsibility.
- Performs general clerical work as required, including preparing reports, entering and retrieving computer data, copying and filing documents, attending meetings, etc.
- Attends training, seminars, meetings, etc., to enhance job knowledge and skills and maintain certifications.
- Performs other related job duties as assigned.
