GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK
Enforces City of Lebanon Animal Control regulations by catching, confining stray, diseased, unlicensed, uncontrolled and apparently dangerous animals. May be required to use a tranquilizer gun.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Answers complaints from the public regarding violations of animal control regulations. Patrols streets for stray or unlicensed dogs or cats and takes them to the City pound. Works with officials in destroying dogs, cats, and other animals as required and disposes of bodies. Works closely with Health officials and Humane Society on matters of common interest. Maintains logs of public complaints and procedures for handling same. Maintains accurate records for animals collected, disposed, and fees charged and received. Feeds and waters animals according to schedules. Cleans and disinfects cages, pens, and yards and equipment. Repairs cages, pens, or fenced yards. Responds to after hour calls within 30 minutes after receiving notification from the dispatcher.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Good knowledge of the care and feeding of and interest in dogs and other small animals. Skill in handling dogs without personal injury. Understanding of pertinent laws and ordinances. Ability to carry out oral directions. Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations and determine proper course of action. Ability to use a tranquilizer gun. Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the public and other employees.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma or GED is required. Preference will be given to candidates with prior experience caring for animals.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Level I NACA Certification is required or ability to obtain required certification within 60 days of hire. All candidates must successfully pass a background investigation, pre-employment drug screen and physical and psychological examinations. Valid Tennessee Driver’s License and clear driving record are required. High School Diploma or GED is required. Must be 21 years of age or older Preference will be given to candidates with prior experience caring for animals. Preference will be given to Wilson County residents. OR must reside within a 20-mile radius and you can respond to calls within 30 minutes.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. This position is a safety sensitive position. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk and reach with hands and arms. The employee is also required to stand and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Employee should be physically fit to be able to chase and capture animals. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include the ability to adjust focus. This position requires the employee to obtain a full set of prophylactic rabies vaccinations after hire.
