GENERAL’S OFFICE MUST MEET MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

High school diploma or GED; supplemented by one (1) year previous experience in the criminal justice system and/or training in the law enforcement field. Hours are for Monday•Friday from 8:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M.

NATURE OF WORK

The purpose of this classification is to investigate and perform paralegal duties in preparation for preliminary hearings, bond hearings, motions and trial calendars for the prosecution of misdemeanor offenses that are assigned to the Solicitor•General’ s Office for prosecution.

SOME OF THE ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES INCLUDE

Provides criminal investigative support; request and maintains copies of warrants and other committal documents; prepares criminal histories for each defendant to attach to the warrant for preliminary hearings and bond hearings; assist in obtaining police reports to go with each warrant; prepares calendars with pertinent information for Solicitor•General and/or Assistant Solicitor-General; prepares list of each defendants prior criminal history; prepare subpoenas for state witnesses for preliminary and bond hearings; prepares consent bond forms as needed for preliminary hearings; keeps copies of recommendations and calendars; obtains police reports, victim/witness statements and other information for Bond Reductions Filed in the Solicitor General’ s Office; serves as the contact person for Magistrate Court regarding any changes to preliminary calendars or bond calendars under the direction and supervision of the designated prosecutor assigned for magistrate court; enters Department Of Family And Children Services reports into the computer database where necessary; keeps updated list of the police officers leave request; prepares and keeps records of all requests for Subpoenas Of Document for Solicitor General’s Office and other law enforcement agencies; prepares and retains records of letters regarding warrants dismissed at preliminary hearings to the police chiefs; enters fingerprints, and distributes inmate jail list, along with judges’ letters; assist in the collection and transportation of evidence from the original agency to the solicitor’s office; request, collect and file scientific reports at intake as directed; act as point of contact to respond to external request for certified disposition documents and supporting documents for similar. Assist Pre-Trial Diversion coordinating in preparation for orientation calendar related to criminal histories. Performs other related duties as required.

TASKS REQUIRED

The ability to exert physical effort in heavy work, with greater emphasis on climbing and balancing, but typically also involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20 to 50 pounds); may occasionally involve heavier objects and materials (up tQ 100 pounds). Some task required the ability to perceive and discriminate visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.

Selection will be made from a register of eligible applicants that may be established by education, work experience, test score, personal interview, credit check, criminal history, driving history (copy of driver’s license may be required), drug screen, and/or physical examination.
