Job Summary:
Maintains the custody and security of prison inmates through supervision, observation and monitoring of inmate activities and enforcement of security policies and procedures.
Job Duties:
Conducts head count and roll call daily and after mass movements. Makes rounds. Monitors inmates and behavior patterns, following prison procedures. Listens to issues of inmates. Prepares detailed reports of incidents or emergency situations for supervision. Communicates with cage deputy of current location. Responds to calls from cage deputy as necessary. Check in with the cage deputy to verify that no inmates need attention. Supervises all inmate activities and movements to functions including but not limited to feeding, recreation, religious services, educational programs, medical services,law library access, cell transfers, releases and disciplinary proceedings. Oversees hall time on lockdown lines, ensuring that each prisoner is allotted time as prescribed by prison policy. Instructs inmates verbally to move about the prison. Maintains the logbook, recording all activity that occurs on the line. Oversees trustees and ensures that they are cleaning or performing duties as assigned and not passing contraband. Verifies that control of the prison keys is maintained at all times. Monitors the noise level within the dormitories so as not to impede the safety and security of the inmates and prison staff. Monitors all visitors within the area of his assignment. Contacts other deputies for response to emergencies, and responds appropriately. Prevents and controls inmate disturbances as necessary. Pats down prisoners, conducts strip searches, conducts shake downs as needed. Rides in a marked unit to conduct perimeter control. Conducts shift relief briefing. Briefs relief on inmate counts, conducts roll calls, secures counts, and records counts for shift adjustments. Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications:
The incumbent must be a minimum age of 18 years; have a high school diploma or equivalent; no felony convictions and no convictions of perjury, false statement or moral turpitude charge as an adult. All other arrests and convictions will be reviewed on a case by-case basis. Must have good moral character as determined by a background investigation. Incumbent must maintain a valid Louisiana Drivers License.
