DESCRIPTION
- The Kitchen Officer of the Norfolk CountySheriff’s Office shall follow the Chain of Command Policy and workwithin Support Services under the direct supervision of theSteward/Senior Officer.

STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES
- Shallassist in the care and custody of inmates detained or sentenced to theNorfolk County Correctional Center or related programs.
- Shall beresponsible for the kitchen job site with an inmate working populationof approximately 12-18 inmates per shift; and will be dually responsiblefor key control and tool control inclusive of all kitchen utensils,knives and general equipment. These responsibilities to be carried outin conjunction with CSD 760 Food Service Policy of the NorfolkSheriff’s Office.
- Shall supervise inmate food service workers whoparticipate in the preparation, cooking, and serving of meals in theNorfolk County Sheriff’s Department and Correctional Center includingmenu preparation, food processing and the selection thereof.
- Shallassist all correctional staff assigned to the kitchen and dining room inmaintaining the care and custody of inmates in the kitchen andsurrounding areas when they are eating during assigned meal times,breaks, and other related functions.
- Shall assist in the conducting ofall searches of inmates assigned to the care and custody of kitchencorrectional staff upon the completion of inmate work assignment.
- Shall assist in the security of the correctional center by working asecurity post to ensure proper care and custody of inmates when deemednecessary.
- Provide security escort to all outside vendors who supplyservices by contract to the Correctional Center while overseeing anddocumenting their related tasks.
- Shall supervise in the directing andassisting of inmate workers in kitchen assignments, not excludingcleaning of the kitchen area and equipment, and the safeguarding offoodstuffs.
- Shall be responsible for training of inmate workers inregards to hygiene, chemical usage, and work responsibilities.
- Shallensure proper storage, inventory and maintenance of all kitchenequipment, tools and utensils under the direction of the Steward.
- Shall participate in “special meal assignments” as directed by theSheriff of Norfolk County including holidays as determined, notexcluding overtime or other considerations.
- Shall be responsible toprepare nutritionally balanced meals in an efficient, safe, sanitary andcost-effective manner.
- The Sheriff of Norfolk County reserves theright to add or delete from these responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS
- ServSafe Certification Required
- CompletedCorrections Officer probationary employment period with the NCSO
- Shallsuccessfully graduate from the Basic Corrections Officer Academy andmeet all the requirements of a Corrections Officer
- Thorough knowledgeof institutional cooking methods; including a working knowledge of foodplanning (dietary Standards as prescribed by the Department of PublicHealth)
- Related studies in Culinary Arts preferred
- Working knowledgeof food service sanitation and hygiene principles, requirements andcodes
- Ability to lift and carry 120lbs.
- Ability to maintain constantcommunication and adhere to standard operating proceedures.
