Detention Officer Moniteau County Jail 210 E North St, California, MO 65018 Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated, trustworthy and vigilant Detention Officer to join our team. This role is crucial in maintaining safety and security within the jail. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong conflict management skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to upholding the law while ensuring the welfare of inmates and staff. As a Detention Officer, you will be responsible for monitoring inmate behavior, enforcing facility rules, responding to emergencies, and various other duties. Responsibilities Supervise and monitor inmate activities to ensure compliance with facility regulations. Conduct regular inspections of the facility and report any irregularities or safety concerns. Prepare detailed reports on incidents, inmate behavior, and daily activities. Respond promptly to emergencies, including medical situations. Engage in conflict management strategies to de-escalate potentially volatile situations. Maintain order and discipline among inmates while fostering a safe environment for all staff and individuals in custody. Collaborate with law enforcement personnel when necessary to ensure adherence to legal standards. Minimum Requirements Must be at least 18 years of age No felony convictions or disqualifying criminal history Pass a background check and drug screening Strong written and verbal communication skills Ability to work flexible hours, including overnights, weekends, and holidays Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time Capability to physically restrain individuals if necessary Able to lift up to 50 lbs. Able to climb stairs and ladders Capable of operating doors and security systems
