Description of Work This position is classified as a Correction Enterprises Supervisor III. This position is located at the Nash Print Plant inside Nash Correctional Institution. This facility houses medium custody male offenders. This position will supervise and train offender workers in the operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of a variety of equipment. The applicant must have the technical and mechanical knowledge to operate, troubleshoot and train on a variety of production equipment used in a commercial printing environment. The applicant must be able to demonstrate knowledge of offset, digital and/or letterpress presses. This position requires certification through Criminal Justice Standards and will be responsible for offender security in addition to their supervisory duties. Offender security includes, perform searches of offenders, objects and places capable of concealing contraband, personal property, buildings and outdoor areas, engage in duties associated with escaped or fleeing offenders, conduct offender counts multiple times per shift, administer first aid and emergency procedures, utilize unarmed self-defense tactics, batons and emergency equipment, utilize firearms and proper restraint methods and techniques, counsel and work with offenders in a variety of assignments and custody levels, make quick, effective and reasonable decisions in emergencies and take the appropriate action. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits Necessary Special Qualifications Must be eligible for certification by the NC Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission. Must be at least 20 years of age and a citizen of the United States.
Must possess a valid driver’s license. Pass Psychological testing as required by NC Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission.
Pass Physical Examination as required by NC Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission.
Pass Drug Screening as required by NC Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission.
Attend and successfully complete (6) weeks of Basic Correctional Officer Training (BCOT) at a Training Facility. Employees shall be scheduled for BCOT during their 2nd month of employment. Note to Current State Employees State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result. To qualify for this position, applicants must document on the application that they possess ALL of the following: Documented production experience in a commercial printing environment including processes such as: offset, digital and letterpress. Experience in Bindery and Prepress are a plus. Documented experience in management of skilled workers and training of unskilled workers. Proven knowledge of various industry safety programs.
