Description of Work
This posting is for one (1) Regional Correctional Transportation Officer position, that will report directly to the Regional Security Coordinators in the Eastern Region Office, which is located in Greenville, NC, Pitt County, but will serve the geographic area of the region as needed to transport offender(s), in departmental vehicles. These positions will be 8 hour shifts Mon-Fri with possible call back. Start times will vary depending on transportation trip schedule. Must be flexible and available to work weekends, holidays and possible evenings based on operational needs.
Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: Exercising independent decision-making within established policies and procedures due to the physical separation from supervisory personnel.
Providing custody supervision of offender(s) in their custody and control. Enforcing rules and regulations for safety, health, and protection of offenders.
Performing searches of persons, places, and objects. Performing rescue functions to include, CPR, basic first aid, physically removing people from dangerous areas and using fire equipment to including fire hoses, extinguishers and breathing apparatuses. Establishing and maintaining control of violent or uncooperative offenders. Being able to defend oneself or others against violent attacks.
Loading, unloading, aiming, and firing handguns, shotguns, and rifles at the level of proficiency required, maintaining a professional demeanor at all times to include times of mental and verbal abuse by offender.
Effectively communicate with offenders, staff, and members of the public.
Will perform other duties assigned by the Regional Office.

High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of experience as a Correctional Officer; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum Education and Experience for a Trainee Appointment High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualifications Must be eligible for certification by the N.C. Criminal Justice Education and Training and Standards Commission.

The North Carolina Department of Adult Correction (DAC) is one of the largest state agencies with more than 19,000 employees.
