Assists the Warden in overseeing the day-to-day operation of the prison, including the provision of security for the facility and safety for inmates and personnel. Assumes responsibility for operation of prison in the absence of the Warden. Oversees the provision of inmate security. Investigates rule violations and charges against inmates and officers. Ensures that personnel adhere to state and department rules and regulations. Attends required seminars and training sessions. Carries out continuous efforts to improve operations and work processes. Supervises and schedules the work of institute employees; ensures that there is adequate security coverage for all work shifts. Organizes search parties in the event of an escape. Informs the Warden of all security violations. Ensures that all areas relating to security are ready for inspection by the state. Performs daily inspections of the isolation area and the rest of the prison for sanitation security violations. Ensures that disciplinary reports and procedures are carried out in compliance with GDC regulations. Holds regular supervisor meetings. Disciplines subordinates as necessary. Authorizes inmates to participate in detail; monitors outside details. Performs background checks and conducts interviews for new applicants for employment. Gives CERT team directions. Performs other related job duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of modern corrections practices and procedures. Knowledge of the criminal justice system. Knowledge of state Department of Corrections guidelines and federal, state, and local laws related to the incarceration of persons. Skill in assessing situations with accuracy and speed. Minimum Educational and Training Requirements Bachelor’s Degree in Correctional or Security Management, Criminal Justice, Public or Business Administration or related field is required. Master’s Degree preferred. Must have a minimum of ten (10) years of progressive responsibility within the field of corrections to include five (5) years in a supervisory management capacity. This position is required to supervise state inmate labor. Employee must be P.O.S.T. certified. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. Candidates will consist of all ranked supervisors (Sergeants and Lieutenants) of the Muscogee County Prison and any external applicants who meet the qualifications set forth above through service at any similar corrections, law enforcement, or United States Military Agency.
