Description of Work This position is located at Foothills Correctional Institution in Burke County, NC. Foothills Correctional Institution is a close/minimum custody facility. This is skilled supervisory work in the upkeep of lawns and grounds surrounding state institutions or buildings. Positions furnish technical guidance and supervision to grounds crews engaged in the construction, modification, and general upkeep of grounds areas. Work assignments involving the standard application of horticultural practices are performed under general supervision. Projects involving technical horticultural knowledge and application are outlined by the grounds superintendent who reviews the project during progress and upon completion for acceptable workmanship and adherence to project plans •Applicants must pass a background check to be eligible for this job.•This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits. “As of January 1, 2025, there are new increase adjustments to the state’s pay plans which were approved by the State Human Resources Commission, effective January 1, 2025. To qualify for this position, applicants must document on the application that they possess ALL of the following: Considerable knowledge of ornamental shrubs, plants, and flowers and their uses in landscape work. Knowledge to adjust and make minor mechanical repairs to equipment such as tractors, mowers, disks, and rakes. Supervise and maintain effective working relationships with crew and other grounds personnel.
