DETENTION AIDE I

– Full Time State Position 2:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m. each day with Wednesday/Thursday off. Full-time State position with State benefits. Must be at least 21 years of age and have a valid driver’s license. Must be able to pass criminal and abuse/neglect background checks. Must be able to pass a drug test. The 24th Judicial Circuit is seeking an individual for the position of Detention Aide I for the St. Francois County Juvenile Detention Center. This position is responsible for the safety, personal conduct, care and supervision of juveniles during a work shift. The employee is expected to exercise considerable judgment and discretion in the performance of duties in accordance with detention policies and procedures. An employee in this class works under the general supervision of a juvenile officer or detention supervisor.

Minimum qualifications and experience:

High school education, GED or equivalent with one year of previous experience in direct care and interaction with children such as YMCA, day care, schools, recreational facilities or residential care programs. Must be 21 years of age with a valid driver’s license.

Minimum starting salary:

$1,377.96 semi-monthly Hours worked between 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. will be eligible for a $2/hour shift differential with the following provisions: The number of hours worked between 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. must exceed one hour or the time worked will not qualify for a shift differential. To qualify for the shift differential, the employee must be working the evening or overnight shift in order to maintain the youth to staff ratio or the minimum staffing requirements. Employees scheduled to work the evening and overnight shift, that are not for the purpose of maintaining the appropriate staffing as outlined in the juvenile detention standards, are not eligible for the shift differential.
