Department:
The Huntsville Police Department (HPD) is located near the City’s downtown business and historic districts. Huntsville has 3 Police Precincts, approximately 500 sworn officers, 200 civilian personnel and patrols an area of around 220 square miles.
Crime Intelligence Analyst Position Overview:
This is technical work in the analysis of a specialized nature relating to the protection of life and property and related activities. The Crime Analyst is a non-sworn position that provides complex crime statistical research, analysis and reporting. To include timely and pertinent information regarding crime statistical patterns, crime trends, social links and criminal network correlations. Work involves conducting administrative, strategic and tactical analysis for both short- and long-term situations. Tactical analysis includes collecting, collating, analyzing, disseminating and evaluating as much information as possible to discover developing crime patterns, hot spots and trends, as well as forecasting criminal activity. Administrative analysis focuses on economic, social and geographic information in historical terms. Strategic analysis focuses on long range problems and projections of long term increases or decreases in crime.
Qualifications and Necessary Special Requirements:
High school diploma from a school accredited by a regional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or GED certificate issued by the appropriate state agency and two (2) years of experience in criminal intelligence analysis that involves using the principles, concepts and methodologies of all-source intelligence analysis to research, evaluate and integrate all-source data in the preparation and presentation of analytical intelligence products.
