City of Plantation, Florida – 3.7 Plantation, FL Job Details Full-time $52,056.57 – $91,827.78 a year 21 hours ago Qualifications Forensic Science Computer literacy Mid-level Databases Analysis skills Driver’s License Computer skills Associate’s degree Communication skills Full Job Description Description This is a non-exempt position which requires skilled technical work in the classification and identification of fingerprints and in the maintenance of pertinent fingerprint files for the Police Department. Employees are hired as AT WILL employees that serve at the pleasure of the City and may be terminated at any time with or without cause. Examples of Duties Receives, analyzes and identifies latent fingerprint evidence manually and through the use of the Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS). Performs comparative analysis of fingerprint evidence in accordance with current standards. Trains department personnel in the collection and preservation of latent fingerprint evidence and in proper courtroom presentation of fingerprint evidence. Trains department personnel in the proper taking of fingerprint/palm print standards. Assists department personnel in the detection and development of latent prints including processing with latent print photography. Provides scientific and technical expertise in the area of fingerprint evidence analysis. Prepares and maintains latent prints reports. Maintains latent print log and analyzes pertinent monthly statistics. Maintains filing system related to crime scene latent prints and fingerprint standards. Obtains fingerprint standards in open court then effects subsequent comparisons. Prepares comparison charts and records for use in testimony; prepares enlargements of evidence for visual aids in court. Provides expert testimony in all courts of law. Performs related work as required and as directed.

Typical Qualifications Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of standard fingerprint classification practices, purposes, methods, records, and equipment used in the persons identification. Knowledge of fingerprint classification, file search, comparison, and charting. Knowledge of the basic equipment, materials, and techniques used in lifting and preserving latent prints. Knowledge of pertinent law enforcement databases. Knowledge of city and department policies and procedures. Knowledge of courtroom procedures. Knowledge of applicable state statues, local ordinances, and departmental rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Skill in written and verbal communication. Skill in the taking, classification, identification, and filing of fingerprinting. Skill in computer literacy with emphasis on various departmental software. Ability to produce authoritative evidence to courts in the form of testimony and graphic representations of “charted” comparisons. Ability to perform necessary identification tasks on cadavers in varying states of decomposition. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Ability to adhere to tight schedules while maintaining work quality. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with other municipal employees, supervisors, city officials, and the general public.

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

Associate’s Degree with major coursework in forensic science, criminal justice or closely related field; successful completion of recognized basic and advanced fingerprint course; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Experience in latent print examination is preferred. Licenses and Certificates Valid State of Florida driver’s license. Must possess or be able to obtain Latent Print certification from the International Association for Identification (IAI) within three (3) years of employment. Work Environment The work is light work which requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects. Work requires the ability to balance, climb, crawl, kneel, lift and/or carry and push/pull various objects.
