Under the general supervision of an Investigative Services Bureau supervisor, the Investigative Aide assists in gathering, analyzing, and organizing information related to criminal cases. The role involves conducting investigative research, preparing reports, interacting daily with victims, witnesses, attorneys, and agency personnel, and handling sensitive information in accordance with legal and departmental standards. Work is performed in both office and field settings, requiring flexibility, sound judgment, and a thorough understanding of investigative procedures. Essential Functions Gather and analyze surveillance footage and financial documents. Prepare and submit subpoenas in accordance with investigative needs and legal standards. Utilize a wide spectrum of investigative databases to identify stolen property, IP addresses, telephone accounts, and social media activity. Retrieve, compile, and disseminate sensitive information on suspects, victims, and witnesses in accordance with investigative and legal standards. Collect, handle and submit evidence. Maintain daily activity sheets, prepare photo line-ups, and complete investigative reports. Testify in court proceedings. Interact with victims, witnesses, attorneys, other agency members, and detectives daily. Provide support to detectives by organizing and conducting investigative activities and reports. Review case files, evidence, witness statements, and video interviews with detectives to establish leads and identify new information. Collaborates with other law enforcement agencies, forensic laboratories, and other experts regarding case information. Prepares and presents comprehensive case reports, affidavits and court testimony related to investigations and evidence. Uploads information to the Palm Beach County State Attorney’s automated case filing system. Manages workload as assigned. The Investigative Aide will complete other required tasks as assigned by the Major Crimes Lieutenant.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of:

Florida state statutes, department programs, policies, and current legal guidelines relevant to investigations. Modern office procedures, systems, and equipment State and Federal laws relating to records management and the dissemination of public and private information Skilled in: Microsoft Office software and the ability to acquire competency in the use of departmental computer applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook at an intermediate level. Skilled in organizing and prioritizing workload and handling multiple projects and deadlines in an efficient and effective manner.

Ability to:

Work a flexible work schedule that includes weekdays, weekends and evenings as needed. Communicate verbally and in writing in a clear and effective manner. Learn new and emerging technologies. Provide outstanding customer service, both internally and externally. Demonstrate ethical judgement and integrity in handling sensitive investigative information. Work effectively and independently Minimum and Preferred Qualifications Associate of Applied Science (AAS) or Associate of Arts (AA) degree or sixty (60) credits of post-secondary coursework in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement / Police Science, Criminology, Paralegal studies, or related field of study AND Three (3) years of experience in a police agency providing criminal investigative support Possession of a valid State of Florida Class “E” driver’s license is required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel, Word, and Outlook preferred. Bachelor’s degree or higher in criminal justice, forensic science, or a related field is preferred. Prior sworn law enforcement officer position Additional experience is accepted as a minimum requirement in lieu of the postsecondary degree on the following basis: additional four (4) years in lieu of the bachelor’s degree, and additional two (2) years in lieu of an associate degree.
