SUMMARY A
highly visible civilian position responsible for testing new firearms and ammunition, including calibration and ballistics testing; checking new firearms to ensure required specifications are met; providing direction concerning routine firearms cleaning and maintenance; making repairs and maintaining the agency’s firearms using specialized tools and equipment; documenting problems with specific firearms. Additionally, this position is responsible for preparing firearms for return to the manufacturer; maintaining automated records for individual firearms, including dates received and issued and any repair or maintenance information; implementing inspection programs to check firearms periodically; writing firearms and equipment specifications; and maintaining communication with the manufacturers for information as it pertains to all firearms and ammunition. Conducts directed modifications to agency firearms. May be on call to respond for weapon issue and/or collection.
