The Savannah Police Department is seeking a qualified Civilian Police Forensics Technician The Civilian Police Forensics Technician position offers you the opportunity to be at the forefront of crime scene investigations, working alongside law enforcement to collect, process, and preserve critical evidence. As a technician, you will manage everything from photographing crime scenes to taking fingerprints and ensuring the safe transport and disposal of evidence—all while maintaining a strict chain of custody. Your work will directly impact criminal investigations, helping to bring justice to those in need. As the new Civilian Police Forensics Technician, you will collect, process, package, transports, store and dispose of evidence obtained in criminal investigations. Essential Job Functions Collects, accounts for and packages items of evidence at crime scenes, working with officers, detectives, and their supervisors. Completes required documents to initiate and maintain chain of custody throughout the time period in which items are maintained. Disposes of evidence in accordance with police department policy and state guidelines. Maintains evidence lockers, keeping them in a neat and orderly condition. Updates the evidence manual. Takes latent fingerprints from evidence, submits print evidence, and takes fingerprints of deceased persons during autopsies. Photographs crime scenes and evidence. Completes crime scene reports. Transports drugs, hazardous materials, weapons, and other evidence for required testing; further transports items of evidence for disposal upon receipt of court order or judicial release. Fingerprints suspects and applicants, ensure suitability of latent prints for comparison, files fingerprint cards for future referral. Orders supplies, as required. Testifies in court regarding evidence and evidence collection. Performs other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Associates’ Degree in Criminal Justice, Forensics or Biology plus two (2) years investigation and/or forensic experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Forensic Certification preferred. Must possess a valid driver’s license.
