Minimum Requirements Multiple vacancies exist in the Real Time Crime Center. This vacancy is primarily open to current BSO employees holding the Crime Analyst classification. To be considered, eligible BSO employees must apply and have completed their probationary period by the listed closing date. Must be a current BSO employee classified as a Crime Analyst who has successfully completed their probationary period by the listed closing date.
Two (2) years of experience in strategic and tactical analysis principles, practices, and techniques to include collection of data from multiple sources and preparation of analytical reports. Experience in analysis, intelligence or police aide work in a criminal justice or similar law enforcement environment is preferred.
Ability to acquire
NCIC/FCIC
Full Terminal Access Operator certification within six (6) months of hire.
Knowledge of social media platforms, search techniques, and mobile applications as part of social media audits preferred.
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license throughout employment without any restrictions which affect job performance.
An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered. Such experience must be clearly documented for consideration. Nature of Work Under administrative direction, the purpose of this position is to perform crime and intelligence analysis. Employees in this classification request and receive raw data in various formats and perform subsequent analysis and research to detect patterns and trends. Work products are in the form of summaries, charts, graphs, and related presentation materials for tactical and strategic planning initiatives. Performs related work as directed. Essential Functions/Physical Requirements The list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification. Prepares charts depicting criminal patterns and activity for the Department of Law Enforcement; maintains electronic and paper working files of statistical crime data. Provides direct support to command staff in the preparation of analysis, research and presentation materials for intelligence meetings. Provides direct support to district personnel in the detection, identification, and scope of criminal activity. Searches online platforms for suspicious activities and statements; locates potential photographic and video evidence and utilizes software tools to recognize patterns in social relationships. Analyzes followers, impressions, engagements, clicks/traffic, and mentions while conducting social media audits. Maintains and updates district crime data pattern and trend reports. Provides assistance to other law enforcement agencies in the collection and dissemination of crime statistics. Assists other agencies in research and identification of crime patterns and trends; provides information when relevant to their jurisdiction. Maintains liaison with external agencies and information sources within the law enforcement community; provides input and recommendations concerning advanced technologies and applicable intelligence. Prepares reports and summaries detailing findings, recommendations, and statements obtained from various law enforcement entities. Conducts skilled research using a variety of state-of-the-art analytical principles. Maintains current knowledge of trends and developments in legislation and technology concerning crime analysis for application to functions under charge. Performs related duties as directed. Tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation. Work is performed in usual office conditions with rare exposure to disagreeable environmental factors.
