Job Description
Summary The PERSEC Support Specialist III is primarily responsible for conducting interviews and records checks for the NASA Personnel Security adjudication processing in accordance with Homeland Security Presidential Directive (HSPD) 12: investigations, international visit coordinator, suitability investigations and NASA regulations. This includes conducting personnel background research/inquiries, reviewing personnel forms and reports for completeness and accuracy, reviewing technical documents (such as employment applications, investigative questionnaires, affidavits, credit and police reports, loans/benefits applications, etc.). to extract information, identifying discrepancies/inconsistencies, or areas potentially requiring clarification or additional information, applying regulations and/or operating procedures within a technical program, adjudicating or substantiating cases/claims for legal/financial/medical benefits, military intelligence action, law enforcement, or legal work or interviewing personnel for various reasons. Responsibilities Required to follow all company personnel and safety policies and perform all assigned duties in a safe work manner. Ensures all investigative inquiries follow federal, state, local, NASA policies, procedures and regulations pertaining to the operation of the PSSO. Requests pertinent records such as credit reports, criminal records, motor vehicle driving records, employer evaluations, education verifications, reference checks, employment verifications and may conduct subject interviews to include signed statements as appropriate. Conducts personal interviews with applicants to resolve issues of concern in background investigations, arrest reports, incident reports, or as directed by NASA security. If investigation uncovers information indicating further need for follow-up, data is gathered and may be forwarded to supervisor for review. Resolves with subject any issues brought out in the investigation and offers advice on how to resolve issues. Maintains appropriate files, creates reports, metrics, and statistical analyses. Must be able to work flexible hours to include weekends and holidays if needed. Other duties as assigned Qualifications Possession of a high school diploma or GED and two years’ experience conducting personnel background research/inquiries, reviewing technical documents (such as employment applications, investigative questionnaires, affidavits, credit and police reports, loans/benefits applications etc.) to extract information, identifying discrepancies/inconsistencies, or areas potentially requiring clarification or additional information, applying regulations and/or operating procedures within a technical program, adjudicating or substantiating cases/claims for military intelligence action or law enforcement, and interview personnel for various reasons. Effective oral and written communication skills. Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to organize and prioritize work. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license. Must be able to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance. Must be able to meet drug and alcohol-free workforce requirements to include random drug and/or alcohol testing.
