This person will work closely with prosecuting attorneys and support staff in Jasper and Beaufort counties, but will also be involved with other cases throughout the Fourteenth Circuit to include Allendale, Colleton and Hampton counties. Must be certified in South Carolina as a Class 1 officer. Qualifications An understanding of Federal, state, and local criminal laws and statutes Methods and techniques used to conduct criminal investigations Conducting effective interviews Communication and interpersonal techniques as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the public, etc., sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction Completion of course work equivalent to the academic requirements of a bachelor’s degree in social or behavioral science, criminology, criminal justice, or a related field; and four (4) years experience in law enforcement or in performing criminal investigations; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above SC Criminal Justice Academy Class 1 officer Valid SC driver’s license Positions in this class typically require sitting, standing, mobility, carrying, climbing, bending, reaching, grasping, using foot controls, driving, talking, hearing, and seeing
Light Work:
Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects Responsibilities Gather evidence used in the prosecution, and conviction of defendants Work closely with area law enforcement agencies in a professional manner Investigates a wide variety of matters within the jurisdiction of the Solicitor Maintains contact with other law enforcement agencies in the investigation of various felony and misdemeanor cases Help prosecution to decide if additional investigation is necessary and completes cases as appropriate Reviews case files Serves subpoenas in accordance with established procedure Works with prosecutor on preparing cases for trial, to include, creating trial exhibits and locating witnesses/victims Assists other law enforcement agencies as needed, including raids and arrests. Organizing and prioritizing work Photographing crime scenes.
