Crossing Guard (Part Time) 3.0 3.0 out of 5 stars Branford, CT 06405

Position Summary/Purpose:

The purposes of this position is to perform a variety of non-sworn duties in the enforcement in guidance and control of vehicular and/or pedestrian traffic at places such as schools, churches, crossings, beaches, and Town events.

Job Summary:

Monitor traffic flow to locate safe gaps through which pedestrians/students can cross streets Direct or escort pedestrians/students across streets, stopping traffic as necessary Direct traffic movement or warn of hazards, using signs, flags, lanterns, and hand signals Learn the location and purpose of street traffic signs within assigned patrol areas Discuss traffic routing plans and control point locations with superiors Maintain thorough knowledge of the latest traffic and parking regulations Assists other departments, offices or staff as needed to promote a team effort to serve the public.

Works under the general direction of the Detective in charge of

Traffic Minimum Required Qualifications:

The qualifications required would generally be acquired with High School Graduate or GED equivalent. College experience/ degree and Bilingual skills are a bonus. Valid CT Driver’s License Complete training in traffic control and parking enforcement

Knowledge, Ability and Skill:

Thorough knowledge of local traffic control and parking regulations. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and communication with all merchants, various groups and individuals. Ability to effectively de-escalate minor disputes. Good problem-solving skills; including effective verbal communication skills.

Job Environment:

Work is most often performed in assigned locations and requires working in all types of weather

Part-time Pay:

$20.73 per hour Expected hours: No more than 19 per week

Schedule:

Afternoon shift Day shift Evening shift Monday to Friday Weekends as needed
