As a Stormwater Specialist, you will be at the forefront of implementing and monitoring the City’s stormwater management programs to ensure alignment with NPDES (National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System) Phase II permit requirements. This dynamic role combines technical fieldwork with public engagement, regulatory analysis, and interdepartmental coordination.
You will conduct wet and dry weather water sampling, track and investigate pollution sources, and inspect stormwater infrastructure to ensure environmental compliance. Your work will support the development of public education initiatives and training workshops aimed at homeowners, City staff, and developers. You’ll also analyze data, maintain detailed records, and create maps and technical reports to guide decision-making and corrective actions.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES WHAT YOU
“LL DO
- Implements and monitors components of the City’s stormwater plan and NPDES Phase II Stormwater Permit;
- Evaluates current City services for compliance with NPDES Phase II Stormwater Rules and identifies necessary changes to achieve compliance;
- Assists in developing and executing public education, involvement, and outreach programs, including creating targeted educational materials and conducting training workshops for homeowners, City staff, contractors, engineers, and developers;
- Conducts wet weather and TMDL sampling year-round under varying weather conditions;
- Performs dry weather screening by collecting and testing water samples from stormwater outfall sites across the City;
- Investigates storm sewer pollution sources through construction plan reviews, onsite inspections, and coordination with City departments for infrastructure assessments and repairs;
- Inspects City facilities for compliance with individual stormwater permits and prepares reports detailing findings and necessary corrective actions;
- Performs site inspections and evaluates stormwater control devices to ensure regulatory compliance;
- Creates and manages computerized files and databases, performing data analysis using various software tools;
- Prepares technical reports, diagrams, and maps;
- Responds to citizen complaints by providing guidance and determining appropriate actions to address concerns.
