Open Until Filled Job OverviewResponsible for enforcing compliance with codes, regulations, and ordinances.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES NOTE

Employee may be required to respond to a disaster, either natural or man-made, to serve the citizens of Statesville and meet the needs of the organization, which may result in the assignment of other duties and take precedence over duties described in this job description. This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive.

Enforces regulations and ordinances including Unified Development Code, subdivision regulations, historic districts, and downtown development regulations.

Enforces nuisance ordinances including, but not limited to junked vehicles, overgrown weeded lots, junk, and debris.

Initiates civil citation procedures for non-compliance with ordinances.

Maintains accurate files and tracking systems. Prepares written and verbal reports as required.

Routinely performs field inspections.

Assists with investigations and enforces the minimum housing program; conducts inspections as necessary.

Enforces other land regulatory ordinances and/or policies.

Performs other duties as assigned.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to operate any office machines required by the position such as word processor, xerox machine, calculator, and other office equipment.

Experience in the use of Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.

General knowledge of city ordinances and codes governing health, safety, and welfare.

General knowledge of ordinances and codes relating to zoning, historic districts, land development regulations, and minimum housing/condemnation procedures.

Ability to enforce ordinances and regulations with tact, firmness, and impartiality.

Ability to interpret and implement assigned regulations, policies, and procedures as they are related to the program.

Ability to analyze and systematically compile technical and statistical information, and to prepare technical reports.

Ability to interpret city codes to determine course of action and/or corrective action.

Ability to communicate ideas clearly, concisely, and effectively, both orally and in writing.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, other departments, supervisors, city officials, and the general public.

Job Related Physical RequirementsThis position involves light work requiring the exertion of 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Physical activity related to this position may require the use of fingers and hands, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing/pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required to express thoughts and exchange information; hearing is required to respond to spoken words, and to receive and understand information; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities.

Working ConditionsThe employee is subject to indoor and outdoor environmental conditions including extreme heat and cold, fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, and hazards which include working in narrow and confined spaces.
