The Aerospace Standards Committee Manager plays a vital role in driving the success of SAE’s global standards development efforts. In this role, you’ll work directly with technical committees and industry leaders to support the development, maintenance, and promotion of critical aerospace standards that advance safety, innovation, and global collaboration. As the primary point of contact for assigned technical committees, you’ll manage the standards development process, guide committees through key operational and strategic decisions, and ensure adherence to policies and procedures. This role offers the opportunity to engage with global industry leaders through up to 40% travel – including international destinations – to support and manage mission-critical technical committee meetings. This role combines project management, stakeholder engagement, strategic planning, and operational execution, offering variety and meaningful impact in a fast-paced environment. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Manage the work of assigned technical committees, ensuring the successful development, maintenance, and publication of SAE standards
Serve as the primary liaison to committee leadership and members, facilitating communication, providing guidance on policy and process, and delivering training as needed
Support both virtual and in-person committee meetings, working closely with the Standards Operations Specialist to plan logistics and coordinate schedules
Lead technical committee meetings, representing SAE and facilitating productive discussions that advance committee objectives
Use metrics, industry knowledge, and committee data to assess committee health, identify growth opportunities, and drive continuous improvement
Collaborate with colleagues across SAE-including product, content management, legal, marketing, and sales-to ensure efficient standards development from initiation to publication
Provide administrative oversight for SAE’s Standards Systems Groups and support committee use of SAE platforms, policies, and tools
Identify and implement process improvements to enhance committee operations and overall program efficiency
Hire, supervise, and assign work to editorial consultants and subcontractors as needed
Build and maintain relationships with internal partners, industry associations, and external organizations to support committee activities and strategic partnerships
Promote the work of SAE technical committees through presentations, industry engagement, and targeted outreach efforts
Assist in developing marketing strategies to advance committee visibility, participation, and usage of SAE standards
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s Degree in business or related field, and
4 years’ (5+ years preferred) experience in managing committees/working with technical organizations or similar collaborative groups
Ability to engage with a variety of stakeholders, ensuring adherence to policies and procedures while maintaining business and strategic interests
Strong reliability and professionalism
Ability to work in a team and individually
Ability to assimilate technical information
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience working in or with the aerospace industry
Experience in managing people (i.e., supervision, volunteerism)
WORKING CONDITIONS
Ability to travel 40% of the time
Ability to work for long periods at a computer desk
Standard office environment
