Job Description

Environmental Manager Verdanterra is seeking an experienced and proactive Environmental Manager to lead and grow our environmental services group. This role is central to guiding environmental strategy, overseeing project execution, and maintaining strong relationships with clients and regulatory agencies. You will direct a team of environmental scientists and technicians, ensure regulatory compliance, and deliver impactful solutions in line with federal, state, and local environmental policies.

Role Entails:

Project Management and Technical Leadership Direct a multi-disciplinary staff of environmental scientists and technicians in the execution of project tasks including reporting, permit preparation, and client communications. Coordinate with project managers on a weekly basis to align on project status, resource allocation, and upcoming needs. Collaborate on the preparation of scopes and budgets for environmental service proposals, including but not limited to permitting, wetland/stream delineations, and soil evaluations. Oversee all environmental components of assigned projects from inception through delivery. Serve as the technical expert for fieldwork and environmental permitting processes. Training and Staff Development Supervise and mentor environmental staff, fostering continuous improvement and technical excellence through training and development programs. Client and Regulatory Engagement Initiate and maintain relationships with clients and key regulatory personnel at the federal, state, and local levels. Navigate complex regulatory frameworks such as the Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act, National Historic Preservation Act, and NEPA. Actively represent Verdanterra in meetings with clients, agencies, and public officials, including participation in hearings and project briefings.

What You Will Bring:
Professional Educational Credentials:

A bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Natural Resources, Biology, or a closely related field is required; a master’s degree or relevant graduate coursework is a plus. Professional Certifications (Preferred): Certifications such as PWS (Professional Wetland Scientist), CPESC (Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control), or other relevant credentials are highly desirable.

Environmental Consulting Experience:

7+ years of progressive experience in environmental consulting, with specific expertise in wetland and stream delineations, soil evaluations, and permitting processes.

GPS and Field Technology Skills:

Working knowledge of GPS-based field data collection technologies and related environmental field tools.

Regulatory and Permitting Knowledge :

In-depth understanding of federal, state, and local environmental regulations, including the Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act, NEPA, and NHPA. Experience coordinating with regulatory agencies is essential.

Leadership & Mentorship:

Proven ability to manage and mentor a team of environmental professionals, providing technical direction and supporting staff development.

Project Management Abilities:

Skilled in developing scopes, budgets, and schedules in collaboration with project managers. Ability to lead environmental components of projects from concept through delivery.

Communication Excellence:

Strong written and verbal communication skills, including comfort leading meetings with clients, regulatory officials, and project stakeholders.

Field Readiness & Flexibility:

Willingness to travel and work in varied terrain and field conditions as needed to support project goals.
