Roswell, GA Position Summary:

The Assistant Fire Marshal I performs responsible entry-level technical and administrative duties related to the inspection and enforcement of fire codes and regulations, public education regarding fire prevention, and support to the department’s Operations Division. This position is integral to ensuring compliance with safety standards and maintaining a high level of public trust and safety in the City of Roswell.

Essential Functions:

Conducts inspections of new, existing, and under-construction buildings for fire code compliance. Enforces state and local fire safety laws and codes. Investigates fires to determine origin and cause; collects and documents evidence; may testify in court. Reviews plans, construction documents, and technical reports. May assist with educational presentations and community engagement programs including CERT and Safe Kids. Installs smoke and carbon monoxide detectors during home safety checks. Attends training to maintain required certifications. May respond to fire and medical emergencies and operate emergency equipment. Promotes positive public relations with residents and business owners.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED. 3 years of experience in fire suppression or as a POST-certified Peace Officer. Valid Georgia driver’s license with a satisfactory MVR. Required Certifications (acquired within specified time after hire): NFPA Plans Examiner (preferred) Georgia Fire and Life Safety Educator (preferred)

ICS 100, 200, 700, 800

(within 3 months) Georgia Firefighter Certification First Aid/CPR/AED Georgia Fire Inspector Certification (within 12 months) Georgia Fire Investigator I & II (within 24 months)
