No Job Description Fire and Safety Equipment Technician Job Summary The Fire and Safety (F&S) Equipment Technician is responsible for the periodic and annual testing and maintenance of facility fire and safety equipment. The technician will assist with other duties as assigned by the Rural Metro F&S Division Captain or designee and directly reports to same. Essential Job Functions Conduct annual safety shower and eye wash station inspections on over 300 units, perform repairs to the end unit, and submit notifications performance failures.
Conduct quarterly foam supply inventory and annual testing as per client procedures and perimeters on facility’s fixed and portable foam containers.
Conduct monthly and annual inspection of facility AED’s.
Assist, when directed, client safety engineer with the annual and periodic testing of the fire water system, to include system capacity and pump testing of portable and fixed fire water pumps.
Assist the Rural Metro Fleet Mechanic with preparation of fire and safety equipment designated for required third party testing and maintenance, and validation of repairs prior to returning to service.
Maintain and replace automatic greasing units for elevated pencil monitors and other elevated equipment.
When available and as needed, assist on duty shift with fire water isolation, deluge system verification, or fire water return to service as needed.
Assist F&S Captain and Rural Metro firm license holder with the preparation of extinguishing units designated for periodic testing and maintenance by a third party approved by the client.
Respond to plant emergencies as directed.
Attend all training sessions as designated by the Rural Metro Training Department. Knowledge and Skills Knowledge of inspections procedures for safety showers as per
ANSI Z358.1 – 2014.
Knowledge of local procedures for foam concentrates testing.
Understand the process for identifying and preparing fire & safety equipment for off-site testing and maintenance.
Understand response SOG’s/procedures for plant emergencies.
Knowledge of basic firefighting and emergency medical skills.
Understanding of the LCMC fire water system, fixed and portable fire pumps, and deluge system operation.
Knowledge of Louisiana State Fire Marshal’s Office requirements and procedures. Requirements Ability to obtain and maintain TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential).
Valid driver’s license

Emergency Medical Responder (EMR)
LASFMO Fire Extinguisher Technician endorsement (within 6 months) Work Schedule and Reporting Position schedule: 0630 – 1630, Monday – Thursday, 40 hours per week.
Reports to F&S Division Captain or designee on the first workday of the week for task completion requirements.
Submits weekly report on tasks completed to the division Captain for review.
Submits work request notifications in SAP on units requiring repair beyond the scope of the position.
As needed, completes purchase order request for maintenance and testing of safety equipment assigned to LCMC, Rural Metro and client owned.
