Assistant Fire Marshal Lansdale Borough Lansdale, PA 19446

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under direction of the Director of Code Enforcement and Emergency Services, this position will enforce Borough Codes, perform a variety of technical inspections of buildings and property to ensure compliance with building, fire, and property maintenance codes, as well as ordinances and other laws of the Borough and Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Investigate fire safety violations and investigate causes and origin of fires, as needed. Provide fire prevention and safety programs. Perform a variety of complex and technical customer service functions and administrative work, which allows the Borough to provide residents and business owners quality service while complying with the ordinances and other laws of the Borough and Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

: Inspect buildings to locate hazardous conditions and fire code violations. Investigate complaints and causes of fires within the Borough. Inspects commercial and industrial buildings, places of public assembly, schools, institutions, and multiple family dwellings for fire hazards, fire protection equipment, and compliance with fire prevention regulations. Reviews land development for all new construction. Provide training information to volunteer fire company. Conduct emergency drills as requested by Schools, Day Care Facilities, nursing homes, etc. Identify corrective actions necessary to bring properties into compliance with applicable fire codes, laws, regulations, and standards, and explain them Prepare citations and testify in court regarding public health, fire, and life safety violations and issues. Inspect fire protection systems to verify that such systems are installed and maintained in accordance with appropriate laws, codes, ordinances, regulations, and standards. Conduct fire code compliance follow-up inspections to ensure that corrective actions have been taken in cases where violations were found. Identify corrective actions necessary to bring properties into compliance with applicable fire codes, laws, regulations, and standards, and explain these measures to property owners or their representatives. Write detailed reports of fire inspections performed, fire code violations observed, and corrective recommendations offered. Present and explain fire code requirements and fire prevention information to architects, contractors, attorneys, engineers, developers, fire service personnel, and the public. Investigate causes and origin of fires. Respond to emergency incidents including, but not limited to, fires, rescues, and hazardous material incidents.

Minimum Education, Training and Experience:

Minimum of five years fire service experience to include fire prevention and inspection activities. Two years of origin and cause investigation experience preferred.

Required certifications:

NFPA 1001, Standard for Firefighter Professional Qualifications, Level I NFPA 1031, Standard for Professional Qualifications for Fire Inspector and Plan Examiner, Level 1 Hazardous Materials Operations Level with current refresher certification

IS 100, 200, 700 & 800
Preferred Certification:

NFPA 1033, Standard for Professional Qualifications for Fire Investigator
