JOB SUMMARY

The Deputy Fire Marshal performs routine and specialized duties associated with fire inspection projects and promotes fire prevention and safety within the Town of Mount Pleasant.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Conducts fire inspections in the field to limit the risk of life and loss of property by identifying and correcting those conditions which may lead to the occurrence and/or spread of fire. Inspects commercial, multi-family dwellings, schools, churches, factories, and other types of properties for existing or potential fire hazards and orders correction of the same. Assists the Fire and Life Safety Battalion Chief in the planning and implementation of fire prevention programs. Assists in the formulation of pre-fire plans. Conducts and oversees lectures, tours, fire drills and any other training mechanisms associated with fire prevention. Prepares reports and maintains detailed records associated with fire inspections. Responds to all major fires for public assistance. Performs other related assigned duties.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK

High School Diploma and three (3) years of experience as a firefighter; Or equivalent combination of education and experience; Current Emergency Medical Responder certification (or higher medical certification); Current CPR/AED Certification; Firefighter I Certification (IFSAC or equivalent); Hazardous materials training at Operations Level per 29 CFR 1910.120 (OSHA); National Incident Management System (NIMS) per the promotional matrix. ICC Certified Fire Inspector Level I within 1 year or current State Fire Marshal Certified. Must successfully complete the annual medical physical.
