Description
Performs technical work inspecting projects in the unincorporated areas of Seminole County in accordance with applicable County and State codes. Assists the department in achieving its mission and vision statements.
•Salary will be determined depending on qualifications of candidates who exceed the minimum requirements as outlined within the job description. •Additional compensation based on licensure. Essential Functions
Advises supervisory personnel of any field conditions that are potentially hazardous and/or controversial.
Provides direction and/or technical assistance to contractors and property owners on building projects.
Conducts fire safety inspections of places of assembly, business, industrial, institutional, schools, and public food service establishments for existing or potential life and fire hazards, and assures that all occupancies are in compliance with local and state fire prevention regulations.
Prepares and submits reports relative to findings from fire safety inspections. Orders corrections of hazardous conditions and provides follow-up inspections and /or enforcement as necessary.
Inspects projects under construction for compliance with fire codes.
Maintains inspection records and statistics as required.
Performs commercial fire plans review on new construction and renovations during the absence of the fire plans examiner.
Inspect fire alarm systems and work with owners with regard to false alarms.
Respond to complaints from the public and coordinate with fire dept.
Assist Seminole County with in-house life-safety issue, fire drills etc.
Conduct damage assessment for EOC.
Participate in fire safety training classes.
Reviews pertinent technical reports.

Additional Duties:

Performs other related work as required. In the event of an emergency, all employees are considered essential personnel and may be required to perform alternate duties.
Minimum Qualifications
Completion of high school/GED and six months related experience required.
Must possess State of Florida Municipal Fire Safety Inspection Certificate, in accordance with Florida Statute 633.
A comparable amount of education, training, or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
Additional Requirements
Ability to work effectively with the general public and other county departments.
Must possess the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Thorough knowledge of construction methods and materials.
Knowledge of fire safety codes.
Must have the ability to:
Determine fire safety hazards and explain the need for corrective action.
Work effectively with the general public, building trades and other County departments.
Evaluate the proper installation and testing of fire protection equipment.
Calculate occupant load for various occupancies.
Review, interpret and record site and construction plans for deficiencies and specifications.
Recognize existing and potential fire and casualty hazards in a wide variety of structures and installations.
Communicate both orally and in writing with contractors, County employees, and the general public.
Must possess good customer service skills.
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Drivers License.
Basic skills in the use of standard office equipment and personal computers as well as associated software.
All employees must attend Seminole County Required Trainings.
