Position Description Advertised Job Summary The Fire Safety Technician will support USC’s fire extinguisher program by conducting inspections and coordinating contractor services for testing and maintenance. This role also involves kitchen hood inspections, fire suppression systems, alarm testing, and responding to fire-related emergencies. The technician ensures compliance with NFPA, state, and local codes, and will serve as backup for the Fire Safety Coordinator. Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience Requires a bachelor’s degree in a job related field and 1 or more years of job related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and/or experience. Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree preferred. South Carolina Fire Marshal Certification preferred. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Skilled in maintaining, servicing and inspecting fire sprinklers and fire pumps as well as other life safety devices. Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, codes and guidelines as related to fire hazards and fire hazard prevention. Must possess effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to develop, implement, and maintain concise, accurate records and reports as well as the ability to read, understand, and follow technical manuals and procedures. Knowledge of computers is both a research tool and a method of reporting and testing data. Job Duties Job Duty The Fire Safety Technician will coordinate all kitchen hood suppression and fix suppression system inspections with contractors per NFPA, State, or above and beyond requirements when deemed necessary due to grease build up or specific hazard. They will ensure all hoods are completed per schedule, review inspection reports, and ensure repairs are completed from deficiency logs. Coordinate all maintenance issues per NFPA and state guidelines with contractor, ensure work is acceptable. The Fire Safety Technician will document all work in Google Sheets and CampusOptics. Assist with fire alarm trouble shooting, fire pump testing, and sprinkler operations. Document all responses in the fire safety database and daily activity log.
