SUMMARY:

This is a trainee level position which provides transition into the position of Fire Fighter/EMT. Employees are hired into this position for a probationary period while completing all certifications required for the Fire Fighter/EMT position. Upon completion the employee would be reclassified as a Fire Fighter/EMT. Responsibilities associated with the position will increase as certification are completed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Attending fire academy for Florida Fire Fighter II certification.
Attending Emergency Medical Technician course.
Maintain a valid, Florida Class E drivers license.
Maintenance of fire station and grounds.
Inspect and start up all fire fighting and rescue equipment daily, repair/replace as necessary.
Participate in in-service training and practices.
Complete and maintain logs, forms, and reports of activities.
Possess knowledge of water mains, fire hydrants, and major fire hazards.
Participate in pre-fire planning.
Possess geographic knowledge of the City and County.
Ascertain that all medical supplies for BLS patient care are in place on all units before start of shift.
Must meet proficiency standards.
Any other reasonable duties deemed necessary by supervisor.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Successfully complete the Taylor County Fire Rescue Candidate Agility Test.

While performing this job, the employee often works near moving mechanical parts and heavy equipment and vehicles.

Job requires working in an office environment; outdoor environments in all weather; and can often be in a high stress situation.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Must have graduated from high school or received GED and have progressive responsibilities with a combination of training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform this job.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION

Certification requirements to be met include those established by Section 633.34, 633.35, Florida Statutes, as relates to initial certifications as a firefighter and certification as an Emergency Medical Technician as prescribed in Florida Statutes, Chapter 401 and Florida Rules 10D-66. Possession of a current Emergency Vehicle Operators Course (EVOC) certification or equivalent is required, as is current valid Florida Class E drivers license. Help for Employer Information.
