About our opportunity We are excited to hire full-time, non-exempt Firefighter II/EMT’s to join our team! This position performs a variety of duties to suppress structural and non-structural fires, responds to emergency medical, hazardous material, and rescue situations throughout York County. Appointment to the Firefighter II position requires that the employee be performing substantially the full range of duties for the class and meet the qualification standards for the class, including the proven ability to drive and operate all fire vehicles, a detailed knowledge of the streets, and a knowledge of hydraulics and on scene fire operations as well as firefighting. Projected Hiring Range/Pay Grade 114: $23.38 – $28.05 per hour. Salary is dependent on experience and education.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Performs fire suppression activities to combat, and extinguish fires at a fire scene, including laying and/or connecting hose, directing water, raising and climbing ladders. Enters, searches, and extricates individuals from burning structures and removes dangerous/damaged structures/furniture and fixtures. Performs routine maintenance of assigned vehicles including checking tools, equipment, supplies and materials of each vehicle including all fire suppression and emergency medical response to ensure that vehicles are in proper operating condition.. Performs a variety of emergency rescue activities at fire, accident, hazardous material, or other emergency situations as a certified Emergency Medical Technician. Provides basic/advanced life support and administer basic/advanced emergency medical care and pre-hospital first aid care to individuals when at an emergency scene. Participates in regular training/drills programs and a variety of community service activities. Presents fire prevention/safety programs to school groups, civic groups/organizations and the general public to discuss techniques, and practices. Completes incident documentation in accordance with established policies and procedures and maintain department records of local business renderings to facilitate the efficient response and suppression activities. Performs daily check/inspection of personal fire suppression gear, protective clothing and related equipment to ensure proper functioning and cleanliness; conduct tests on all hoses. Education and Experience Requirements:

High School Graduation or GED equivalent.

Certifications and Licenses:

Valid driver’s license Class E is required, Class B preferred. Must possess S.C. Firefighter. First Aid/CPR certifications. Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) required. Applicants with equivalent experience and/or education may be considered. Physical Demands / Work Environment /
