Job Description
Victim Advocate-Juvenile Division 2.3 2.3 out of 5 stars Macon, GA 31201 JOB The Victim Advocate Coordinator position is responsible for overseeing and providing victim services, legal admin, and investigative support (Intake) operations in the District Attorney’s Office, Juvenile Division. Provides victims with information about appropriate community resources for counseling, health, and Crime Victim’s Compensation. Responsible for follow-up or continual contact with victims and witnesses as needed.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Prepares and sends information packets to victims; provides victims with detailed information concerning victim rights, the criminal justice process and sources of assistance.
Performs administrative and personal service duties; notifies victims and witnesses as to case status information; contacts victims regarding impending court dates.
Trains, supervises and evaluates the work of victim advocates and interns.
Accompanies victims to court.
Assists victims or witnesses with crime related problems, performs need assessment with victims and witnesses to determine appropriate actions and/or referrals.
Verifies need for restitution.
Maintains accurate and confidential records of contacts with victims.
Coordinates travel arrangements for victims and witnesses and transports victims and witnesses as needed.
Assists with the coordination of activities for National Victims’ Rights Week.
Assists in the public education campaign of the office.
Obtains and analyzes victim statistics.
Collaborates with other agencies/victim service providers to assist victims and witnesses.
Input case information into Tracker system (include information on all witnesses, defense attorney, case numbers, offense dates, and law enforcement officers.
Pick up orders from Clerk’s Office (acknowledge receipt).Separate orders to determine their destination (psychological results, amended reports, petitions, violation of probation orders, etc.). Then, submit paperwork to prosecutors.
Attends court to assist in obtaining pertinent information from Judge, parents, victims, and officers.
Updates database system with case outcomes, victim contacts, and case notes.
Upload all dispositions into database system.
Prepares and mails necessary information to victims and witnesses.
Serves as a representative for the District Attorney’s Office with various victim related organizations.
Aids in the completion of various forms and documents.
Administers programs and implements policies to keep victims/witnesses informed of the status of their case as it moves through the legal system and explain basic concepts of a trial and of testifying in a juvenile trial.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Proven knowledge of legal procedures, forms, documents and terminology, business letter writing, general office procedures and practices, the Uniform Rules of the Court, correct English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
Ability to handle confidential materials with discretion.
Ability to maintain appropriate confidentiality and security of private information.
Research/compile data, establish communication and maintain working relationship with others, work independentlyStrong oral and communication skills.
Ability to work effectively with members of all levels within the organization as well as in public.
Ability to achieve results on a timely basis.
