Assistant Managing Attorney Sullivan & Cromwell – 3.9 New York, NY Job Details $175,000 – $185,000 a year 9 hours ago Qualifications Management Mid-level Doctor of Law 2 years Communication skills Full Job Description Summary The Assistant Managing Attorney (AMA) will support the Managing Attorney’s Office and case teams by providing guidance to our lawyers on the litigation process and serving as a firm liaison with various courts and third-parties. The AMA will provide assistance on a range of procedural issues arising in all stages of U.S. litigation, focusing on federal, state and local rules of procedure, as well as court practices. The AMA will assist our lawyers in efficiently utilizing electronic resources to optimize case management and benefit the firm’s clients. The AMA will support the Managing Attorney in overseeing the tasks and personnel of the Managing Attorneys Office (MAO) and assist with the day-to-day operations of the office. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Advise on court rules and processes, civil procedure, filing protocol, and the calculation of deadlines. Perform research on court rules, procedures, and case histories, as needed. Monitor and disseminate pertinent rule changes. Track and monitor state and federal cases of interest through various databases. Monitor docket management software data, including docket and calendar information. Retrieve docket sheets and court records, as needed. Review court documents submitted to the MAO for accuracy and compliance. Leverage technology to monitor and distribute court filings. Oversee incoming court documents and office correspondence. Assist with service and filing of court documents in state and federal courts. Arrange for service of process, as needed. Research and retrieve document samples and templates, as needed. Assist with attorney admissions and renewals. Assist with the development and implementation of MAO goals, objectives, and policies. Recommend procedural changes in support of strategic advancements, goals, and objectives of the MAO. Assist with staffing, workflow and process improvements so that the MAO group is timely and effectively fulfilling its risk mitigation and other compliance functions. Prepare and present training programs for attorneys and staff. Train, motivate and develop MAO team members. In addition, responsibilities related to maintaining firm and client information are to be adhered to by all employees. This includes complying with the firm’s information security policies, protecting firm assets from unauthorized access, disclosure, modification, destruction or interference, and reporting security events or potential events or other security risks to management. Qualifications Knowledge of federal and state procedural rules and practices, particularly New York state rules. Proficient in searching for and retrieving information from court-related databases (e.g., PACER, Bloomberg Law, LexMachina). Familiarity with docket management software (e.g., CourtAlert). Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills. Ability to multitask and perform at a high-level in a fast-paced working environment. Ability to effectively collaborate and develop productive working relationships with team members, administrative groups, and clients (both internal and external). Education and/or Experience At least two years of experience within a Managing Attorney’s/Clerk’s office in a supervisory role or litigation practice. JD required from an ABA-approved law school and active bar member in good standing. Compensation The base salary range offered for this role will be between $175,000 and $185,000. When determining a candidate’s compensation offer, elements unique to each person are taken into consideration including but not limited to skill set, experience level, performance, professional certifications, degrees and location, as well as the needs of the Firm. The total compensation package for this position may include overtime pay, discretionary bonuses and other benefits.
