Position Summary Under the direction of the Chief of Police, the College Police Sergeant will adhere to guidelines set forth by Central Alabama Community College, (CACC) and the Alabama Community College System. The individual will also manage safety, security, and training duties as directed and coordinate daily operations to ensure comprehensive campus coverage. This position will be based at the Childersburg campus but will be expected to travel to other college locations as assigned. Essential Duties and Responsibilities 1. Comply with all policies of the Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees, the Alabama Community College System, and Central Alabama Community College.
2. Assist with command objectives by conducting oversight and supervisory duties in the absence of the Chief or other designated personnel.
3. Operate and ensure the proper maintenance and use of equipment, supplies, and materials used in the Department.
4. Provide campus security and law enforcement protection and assist in civil defense preparedness.
5. Ensure CACC Police personnel are trained and up to date with annual APOST required CEUs, recertifications, college rules, regulations, and student handbook policies.
6. Assist the department with hiring part-time police officers.
7. Safeguard students, faculty, staff, authorized campus visitors, college property, buildings, and equipment.
8. Respond to and assist in investigating all Felony offenses or incidents as directed by Chief of Police on all CACC campuses, including but not limited to criminal, security, safety, and college violations.
9. Attend student disciplinary hearings, as required.
10. Assist with coordinating, managing, and reviewing all emergency drills, exercises, or real-world events as required for the assigned campus.
11. Assist the College in maintaining good relationships with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.
12. Assist in coordinating training for college personnel on safety and security matters.
13. Assist with developing plans and procedures for campus security, emergency response, and other related matters.
14. Assists in providing training to faculty and staff concerning indicators of potentially problematic behaviors so that positive behavioral interventions can allow the at-risk individuals to thrive.
15. Locks and unlocks offices and buildings as requested by authorized personnel.
16. Assists in providing training as requested to the campus community related to domestic violence, dating violence, CACC Emergency Operations Procedures, sexual assault, drug abuse prevention, and alcohol abuse prevention.
17. Will manage any special projects or other duties as assigned.
18. Will fill-in and work shifts on all campuses as needed. Qualifications 1. Associate degree from a regionally accredited institution or minimum of (4) years’ experience in a supervisory role within a police department is required; Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution is preferred.
2. Minimum of four (4) years of employment experience as a police officer is required.
3. APOST minimum Standards Certificate or ability to achieve a lateral transfer from APOST is required.
4. Valid Alabama driver’s license is required.
5. Two years’ experience in a supervisory role within a Police Department is preferred.
6. Employment experience as a police officer in a college setting is preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

1. Thorough knowledge of law enforcement methods, security methods, and traffic control procedures.
2. Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
3. Effective communication skills, both written and oral
4. Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with faculty, staff, students, and the public.
5. Ability to create training curriculums and train other officers, faculty, staff, students and the college community.
6. Ability to effectively supervise personnel
7. Ability to exercise independent judgment and initiative.
8. Prolonged sitting and standing at times.
9. Some overnight travel may be required.
10. Ability to travel independently.
11. Ability to work with large groups.
12. Ability to communicate by using PC, telephone, and written media.
