POSITION OVERVIEW
The purpose of this classification is to perform clerical/financial functions associated with the Sheriff’s Office and Jail.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. Balances daily cash receipts; prepares/balances cash drawers/kiosks. prepares bank deposits; prepares daily cash reports and revenue summaries. Balances bank accounts and reconciles bank statements. Calculates disbursements to various vendors and inmates; prepares and distributes checks; maintains records of payments to vendors and inmates. Operate law enforcement/civil law-based/ inmate financial computer system and the various programs these duties require. Advanced Excel skills will be utilized, and analytical skills are required. Prepares and/or generates various correspondence, forms, reports, and other documents via computer. Receives/generates various reports; reviews for accuracy and makes corrections; performs applicable calculations; forwards as appropriate. Receives, opens, and distributes incoming mail; prepare outgoing mail. Prepares departmental files; maintains file system of departmental financial records. Communicates with co-workers, supervisors, officials, state agencies, or others as appropriate concerning problems, legal clarification, general information or other issues. Answers the telephone; provides information, takes and relays messages and/or directs calls to appropriate personnel; returns calls as necessary. Responds to routine requests for information from officials, employees, inmates, the public or other individuals. Receives monies for inmate deposits, records transactions, balances payments and receipts. Ensure that Sheriff’s Office policies and procedures are followed, as well as state of Alabama Office of the Sheriff Minimum Accounting Requirements. Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally. Maintain confidential and professional integrity. Performs other related duties as required.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND QUALIFICATIONS
MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
High school diploma or GED required. Associates degree in accounting, finance or related field; two or more years of experience in bookkeeping or related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Successfully pass our agencies background check and drug screening. Demonstrate ability to perform duties with minimal supervision. Must possess and maintain a valid Alabama driver’s license.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Light physical work, computer literate and typing skills, wears civilian clothing or an agency shirt. Usually work 9 hours daily M-F Usually has weekends and holidays off. Off Holidays Alabama State retirement
