•JOB SUMMARY This is a management and administrative position requiring the incumbent to provide direction and management of a major phase of the operations of the City of New Smyrna Beach Police Department. Incumbents in this class are upper-managerial employees who have responsibility for directing, managing, supervising, and coordinating the activities and operations of the Police Department including the enforcement of criminal and traffic laws, regulations, and ordinances in order to preserve and protect life, health, and property in the City and related services and activities; coordinating assigned activities with other divisions, departments, and outside agencies; providing highly responsible and complex administrative support to the Chief of Police.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Education, Certifications and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Criminal Law, Public Administration or related field; and Command, Management or Leadership coursework, successful completion of a police management school preferred; and Possess or achieve Florida Law Enforcement Certification within six (6) months of employment; and Possess or obtain Florida Driver’s License within 30 days of appointment; or Six (6) or more years of progressively responsible experience; or, any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
