Initial placement for new employees is customarily at entry level through 35% percentile. Pay grade for this position is 14.

General Definition of Work:

Performs intermediate administrative support and technical work assisting the public and coding, reporting, filing and researching law enforcement records; does related work as required. Work is performed under the regular supervision of a deputy sheriff/sergeant.

Examples of Duties Essential Functions/Typical Tasks:

Receiving, processing and maintaining law enforcement files and records; providing general office clerical duties. (These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. Assists the public with general inquiries, fingerprint applications, incident and accident report information and purchase and concealed carry gun permits. Assists with obtaining information on civil processes and service of domestic violence protective orders. Collects and records fees charged for permits, services, etc. Obtains and clarifies information from domestic violence plaintiffs in order to assist civil officers with the safe service of these orders. Enters and updates these orders into NCIC upon initial issuance and after each court hearing. Properly maintain hard copies of these orders. Answers numerous non-emergency phone calls from the public, attorneys’ offices, insurance companies, etc. Enters incident, arrest, accident and supplemental reports as well as gun purchase permit information in RMS. Scans and files reports. Prepares deposit for finance. Notarizes various documents for sheriff’s office personnel and the public. Processes incoming and outgoing mail and correspondence including but not limited to civil processes, records checks and subpoenas. Restocks office supplies. Distributes record checks to attorneys. Logs and clears subpoenas. Enters and clears civil processes in RMS as needed. May be required to act as transport chaperon for female prisoners. Operates standard office and data entry equipment. Performs related tasks as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

General knowledge of modern law enforcement record keeping procedures and practices; general knowledge of law enforcement forms, terminology and records; thorough knowledge of departmental programs, policies and procedures; ability to perform a considerable volume of detailed record work; ability to maintain files; ability to type accurately and at a reasonable rate of speed; ability to speak distinctly and hear clearly; ability to operate two-way radio and general office equipment; ability to follow oral and written directions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates. Minimum Education / Experience requirements

Education and Experience:

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and some experience in general clerical work.

Physical Requirements:

This is sedentary work requiring the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects; work requires stooping, kneeling, reaching, walking, fingering, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operation of machines, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions.
