Job Description

AFIS Fingerprint Technician Trainee (Sheriff) 3.6 3.6 out of 5 stars 201 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, TN 38103 Position Summary Works under general direction to train and work in a specialized environment for twenty-four (24) months under the direct review of an assigned supervisor or AFIS FP Tech Specialist to learn the principles and operating functions used in monitoring/restoring AFIS system functions. Trains to perform system back-ups and encoding and analyzes fingerprints using those on file in AFIS database. Also, trains to process and identify fingerprints both manual and automated.

Pay Grade:

48 Salary Commensurate with Experience and Education Minimum Qualifications 1. Four (4) years of experience in appropriate clerical, bookkeeping, data processing or statistical work; AND 2. High school diploma or possess a GED; OR 3. Three (3) years of experience in appropriate clerical, bookkeeping, data processing, or statistical work; and one (1) year of college study (30 semester hours or 36 quarters). 4.

PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.

Duties and Responsibilities 1. Train, oversee, and direct the activities of the Civil/Levy office, including the distribution of work related to warrants, summons, petitions, and subpoenas. 2. Receive and mail F.E.D.s and certified mail to defendants in accordance with TCA regulations. 3. Receive Criminal Court subpoenas and input the information into the Soft Code System. 4. Maintain and determine the disposition of all records related to foreign papers (out of county or state). 5. Ensure that incoming checks and money orders are accurately documented and promptly forwarded to the SCSO Budget & Finance Office via departmental mail. Orders and maintains office supplies. 6. Prepares and files monthly/annual statistical reports for operational and command review. 7. Process and file daily activity logs, ensuring that information from the Officer’s log is accurately entered into the Man-hour Accounting System each day. 8. If commissioned, may serve court-ordered papers at the office reception window in the absence of Process Officers or sworn deputies. 9. Administers notices of Sheriff’s Sales to defendants and plaintiff attorneys. 10. Perform other related duties as required. KSAs 1. Knowledge of laws, ordinances, rules, and regulations affecting the record-keeping operations of a department and skill in applying them. 2. Ability to plan, organize, and maintain an even flow of work. 3. Knowledge of business English and math. 4. Ability to compose general correspondence and write and type documents for a variety of needs. 5. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and other software. 6. Ability to analyze and solve problems and exercise good judgment. 7. Ability to express ideas clearly, concisely, and effectively verbally and in writing. 8. Ability to communicate effectively with the public, co-worker, and other departments. 9. May require specialized knowledge, skills, or abilities in specified work functions or areas.
