Counselor A (Sheriff) Shelby County Government – 3.6 Memphis, TN Job Details Full-time $2,853.41 – $3,727.33 a month 1 day ago Qualifications Mid-level High school diploma or GED Bachelor’s degree 2 years Full Job Description Position Summary Works under general supervision to develop and implement counseling programs and procedures to supervise the work of assigned counselors, and to counsel individuals or groups.

Pay Grade:

45 Salary Commensurate with Experience and Education Minimum Qualifications 1. Two (2) years of experience as a Counselor; AND 2. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in psychology, sociology, or a closely related field; OR 3. An equivalent combination of related education and/or experience. 4.

Duties and Responsibilities 1. Oversees program development, implementation, and evaluation to ensure effective service delivery. 2. Directs, trains, and evaluates counselors; assigns them to housing units based on needs. 3. Serves as Inmate Program Trainer for courses such as GED and Life Skills. 4. Conducts sessions addressing social, behavioral, and family issues; leads group discussions and lectures. 5. Networks with outside organizations, service providers, and facilitates entry of social services into the facility. 6. Organizes and oversees the involvement of volunteers and outside trainers. 7. Compiles performance evaluations, program data, monthly reports, and court-related documentation. 8. Contributes to annual budget planning and manages departmental inventory and supplies. 9. Creates and maintains schedules for inmate programs, activities, and counselor assignments. 10. Attends meetings, identifies and addresses operational challenges, and performs related duties as assigned. 11. Performs other related duties as assigned or directed. KSAs 1. Knowledge of the application, method, and technique of counseling. 2. Ability to understand and withstand provocative behaviors. 3. Ability to maintain composure and build rapport with counselors, subordinates, and clients. 4. Ability to write clear and meaningful reports, as well as evaluate reports and case histories effectively. 5. Ability to work with various support agencies in exchange for information and data. 6. Ability to organize and supervise meaningful activities relevant to client needs. 7. Ability to approach problems positively and communicate tactfully in challenging situations, while exercising independent judgement when needed.
